What's Scarlett up to now?*

-- Autumn 09 --

Scarlett's last year behind the keyboards have once again proven lucrative!!

Her play, Numbers, caught the hands of the well-known New York Director/Producer/Shakespearean Professor Richard Rose; he contacted Scarlett immediately and told her of his intention to produce a staged reading in NYC as quickly as possible. The following day, he had secured the Dionysius Complex, in 38th & 8th in Manhattan.

"Hundreds of resumes have been pouring in," says Scarlett; she and Rose (who have tagged the name of their production company The Scarlett Rose) "had nearly a hundred per character; it's been a real education on the kinds of things NOT to put on your resume, the kind of headshots young girls especially shouldn't use. To be considered for a character we have to see the innate qualities of the artist's person; so many young girls just want to send sexy shots. Anyone can be sexy; only you can be you, and that might be the exact quality a producer or casting director is looking for."

Local actor Ari Wilford, who has done work on both Coasts --originating the role of Thad the up-and-coming musical "Gay Bride of Frankenstein"; in October he'll be starring as the Arbiter in "Chess" in LA-- is the only actor set firmly in place in the leading role of Alex: the rest of the roles will be up for grabs at auditions in the Seacoast AND in NYC. Several readings have convinced the production team that, "there is really no other actor that can do this role, not the way Ari McKay Wilford can." The other actors will battle it out on September 19th at the Kittery Grange at noon till six; actors need to contact Scarlett at monkeygirsr@hotmail.com for their auditions slot.

Rose & Scarlett have major plans for their production company; after the initial showing of "Numbers" they plan to seek out investors for an off-Broadway run, which is more of a likelihood than a dream given the buzz the project has attached to it. "Within hours of posting on Breakdownexpress.com, an actor's trade website, we had hundreds of actors to choose from; by the following day, there were nearly a hundred actors seeking to audition for each role." says Scarlett. "Actor friends of mine have heard other artists discussing the project in some of the actor haunts, and we haven't even held callbacks yet!"

Filming "She F*&%ng Hates Me: A Love Story", "Numbers", and stage-producing "Dear Daddy, Love, Cassie" are among the company's premiere projects.

Scarlett's book, "She F*&%ing Hates Me: A Love Story", was made available on Amazon.com in Kindle form and will be available in book form in bookstores across the country shortly; she's in the process of recording it for the audiobook version "for your driving pleasure."

Scarlett Rose plans on filming their first web series, "Getting Laid." It's about a carefree, fun-loving artist, Bernard Mayer, and his uptight manager who tries desperately before he bankrupts himself with both his philanthropic activities and his many children from various affairs (at this count, he has nine; coming from no family at all, he loves having many children; he doesn't even require a DNA test any more, to the despair of his manager). His newest "child" is twenty-two year old Aristophanes, who showed up and said he was the product of a love affair that happened during a Grateful Dead Concert on one of their last tours. His mannerisms, art, and looks are similar enough which finally convince the Melissa (the manager) that she now has TWO wildly irresponsibly and successful artists to keep track of... meanwhile, she's beginning to notice that every time Bernard goes off with another woman, her heart begins to twinge just a little...

Films of "Numbers" and "She F*&%ing Hates Me: A Love Story" are also in talks, as well as in the process of being transposed to audiobooks.

This summer's hot hot hot for Scarlett! Over a dozen major houses are considering her current novel, her Girl Scout show was a success, she's playing Cassie in the movie version of Dear Daddy, Love, Cassie, and filming for "Breakaway" will finally commence.

For Dear Daddy, Love, Cassie, she wrestled with the decision for months, because she was afraid audiences would confuse the story with the storyteller, and "While there's something of me in everything I write, it is NOT my personal story." But in the end, the producer, director, and she decided that no other actor could play Cassie like Scarlett does, because, let's face it, she first wrote the character at age 22-- she's known this woman for over a decade. How could someone, doing research for a month or so, know her like Scarlett doed? --even the most talented of actresses can't touch fifteen years of knowledge.

Also, she's nearing completion on an e-text of "Teaching Acting for Non-Dummies: a Middle-school-age teacher/counselor's Desperately needed Handbook". When that's up, we'll have links up to e-distributors. Last, but not least for this update, she's working hard on he next novel, Thinking with Your Ring Finger

Watch for a blurb in Applaud Magazine about Scarlett's recent achievement: Applaud Magazine celebrates NH women who have made significant contributions within the state.

She's currently in talks with the editor regarding a possible regular column.

Oyster River High School, Leavitt Academy, Cocheco Academy for the Performing Arts will be performing various one acts for the annual one-act competitions. Seeing as how they were such an important part of her own high school years, she truly feels that "I've won the Tony now!!!" The plays in question are The Centerfieldsman, Numbers, and My Sister Jake is Dying.

Scarlett's "She %$#@ing Hates Me" has been chosen to replace Ernest Thompson's "Ax of Love" as the opening of Seacoast Repertory Theatre's "September to Remember" Sept. 7th and 8th at 8PM. She's the youngest artist to have received a space in this long running event.

Look for a number of features, of and by Scarlett in NH Magazine in the coming months, and an exclusive interview in the seacoast paper "The Wire" in September.

Scarlett has happily accepted the invitation to become the youngest Celebrity Guest Editor in the International Center for Women Playwrights; this is a great honor offered to only the most outstanding writers, who have proven themselves in the realm of play production.

Scarlett has won the NH Theatre Award for Best Original Script. More love for She %$#@ing Hates Me! What did she have to say? "I think I like the card that reads: "And the Winner is: She Blanking Hates Me, by Scarlett Ridgway Savage" even more than I like the trophy!"

Also adding to Scarlett's busy winter season is new representation! That's right, Scarlett has signed with Renee Duff, PC, One Chase Road, Scarsdale, NY, 10583, 914-723-7418, reneelduff@aol.com. Exciting stuff! Watch this space for more info as we get it.
